So Much Goodness!

November is almost gone

Thanksgiving is around the corner, exactly 10 days away! Check out the Thanksgiving booklist and start a gratitude journal. We have had a wonderful All Saints Day, celebrating with friends. We also had our first snow storm this month and it was a good one: 8 inches over 4 days! And I totally forgot to take any pictures. It was cold! We went from the 70s to the 30s overnight, it was brutal!

Holidays

As we prepare to enter the whirlwind that is the holidays, let’s refocus our attention on what actually truly matters to us: family. A Daily Picture Books memberships are particularly adaptable during this season as the booklists provide you with great optional activities and yummy recipes to experience with each picture book title.
There is also a fabulous Advent and the 12 Days of Christmas Booklist coming out very soon!

So let’s pile the books high, grab some delicious hot beverages and spend some special time with our families!

November Free Book of the Month

Go on an amazing voyage of discovery, not with Lewis and Clark but with William Clark’s older brother: George Rogers Clark! And explore the Kentucky Wilderness!

November 19th:

George Rogers Clark: Explorer, surveyor, 1752-1818 Book: Postcards from George: 1763-1781 George Rogers Clark writes to Virginia from the Kentucky Wilderness, by Betty Southard Stokes, illustrated by Annette Cable

Activities

Theater: At the end of the book, there is a short play reenacting George Rogers Clark’s life. Practice it then put it on for your extended family or friends. If you do not know anyone nearby record and send it to family and friends.

Postcards: Using this template (print on card stock) or creating your own, send a postcard of your most recent adventures to someone you love. Illustrate the front and explain your adventure on the back. Don’t forget to create the stamp and the post office circle with your location and the date.

Geography: On a map of the USA trace the travels and explorations of George Rogers Clark. Keep it safely so that you can add the travels of his brother William on Williams’ birthday, August 1st.

Recipe

George Rogers Clark ate a lot of game meat on his travels. I am sure that he would have enjoyed a hearty deer (or beef) stew served with hot biscuits.

The December Booklists

The December booklists are posted to their respective memberships. I am so excited for this line up! Wonderful picture book titles are lined up for December from a visit from St. Nicholas and St. Lucia to a jaunt with Jane Austen and the adventures of Jean-François Champollion! Don’t miss out on December!
