Nurturing Creativity in the Heart of Motherhood

Creativity is imprinted in our DNA it seems. Motherhood itself is creative, I mean these cute little persons around us didn’t just appear… But what I would love to talk about is the need that we have as mothers to keep creating. We have this urge to keep bringing beauty into the world through many…

Living the Liturgical Year Well: March into Lent

Well, I had all the intentions of creating a liturgical year post that would include Lent, but it turns out Lent wanted a post of its own.  As spring approaches, so does Lent this year. Lent is not usually my favorite season, by far. But this year I am actually looking forward to it because…

Living the Liturgical Year Well – March: Go To Joseph!

One thing I really love about the Liturgical Year is its rhythm. We know what to expect, what comes next and we can become fully immersed in it. With Lent starting so late this year, it is one of the latest dates for Ash Wednesday, the very latest possible being March 10th, it has been…

The Winter Blues, the February Blues, cabin fever… It doesn’t matter their name, it’s all too real to the homeschooling mom. Picture Book Exploration: Mailing May

Today is the anniversary of a very little known event, as it did not impact the world very much. But it is such an interesting and sweet one that I find it worth remembering and so did Michael O. Tunnell, the author of Mailing May. May was five years old when she was sent by…

A Daily Picture Book came into our homeschool this fall after a dear friend introduced it to me. I knew our picture book collection was lacking, so I was thrilled to hear about this subscription. Every month on the fifteenth, I get excited to see the new selections and immediately race to my library’s website to reserve as many as I can!

Not only have all my children (age 6-16) loved listening to these stories, but I’ve also learned so much myself—about both well-known figures and fascinating individuals I’d never heard of before. It’s truly become a lively and enriching family experience.

I’ve since started using the subscription in my homeschool group, Child of God Scholé. After lunch, the students gather around for a story, which transitions them beautifully into the afternoon’s learning. It’s the perfect way to reset and re-energize!

A Daily Picture Book has helped me simplify (and look forward to) our morning time. In the past, I have tried to do too much during this part of our school day. I am grateful to be able to not have to put the brainwork into deciding what to do. I simply pick the book selections we can do and any manageable craft/recipe selections for that day. Sometimes it ends up just being the book and that works too as my boys have really enjoyed the selections! It brings me peace of mind that the books are factually sound so if we miss other history, geography, etc. for the day, at least they've gotten a gem of knowledge from our morning time.
